Les Nids
‘Les Nids’ is a concept for adaptive art and architecture, living in tune with its natural environment.
A collective of timber shelters interlock to form a family of nests, inspired by the beautiful and complex homes of the ‘social weaver bird’.
Lightweight, low carbon timber structures become rich and shaggy over time, growing and shrinking with the seasons of the monumental forest. Just like the weaver bird, the nests are a social centre of the forest. Spaces of different sizes are suited to everything from family picnics, to games of hide and seek amongst the children of Rouen. Once, their tenure in Rouen concludes, however, each nest can be disconnected from the last to find their new homes - bringing their new shells with them.
